Kanger valley national park joins prestigious UNESCO world heritage list

The natural heritage section of UNESCO World Heritage List welcomes Kanger Valley National Park from Chhattisgarh as its newest addition thus generating historic recognition for the state. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai declared great satisfaction about this achievement while highlighting Kanger Valley National Park serves equally important functions for biodiversity conservation and eco-tourism and local tribal cultural preservation.

The achievement becomes a major international stamp for Bastar which will enhance regional tourism development and elevate Chhattisgarh as a leading ecological destination.UNESCO granted protection status to Kanger Valley National Park because it demonstrates unique natural beauty, geological importance and diverse biodiversity. Tirathgarh Waterfall stands as the park's most picturesque achievement because it drops 150 feet from the ridgeline. Scientific investigators and geological researchers find the region important because it contains exceptional karst structures alongside distinctive limestone caves and rock formations.

Travancore Wolf Snake and Green Pit Viper and Montane Trinket Snake in this area

The park protects 963 plant species among which 30 orchid types count as rare species. The area supports 49 species of mammals and 210 species of birds and 37 reptiles and 16 amphibians and 57 fish species besides a variety of other wildlife. Scott's Myna functions as the state bird of Chhattisgarh and shares the list of rare species with Travancore Wolf Snake and Green Pit Viper and Montane Trinket Snake in this area.

The traditional dances and folk songs and bamboo handicrafts

The UNESCO approval of Kanger Valley National Park will create a substantial increase in tourism across the Bastar area. The park welcomes visitors to experience jungle safaris alongside birdwatching while allowing them to trek and kayak and raft on bamboo poles and camp and explore caves in its extensive natural area. The Dandak and Kailash caves together with Kotumsar attract worldwide tourists and scientists because of their exceptional geological structures and historical importance. The natural heritage of Kanger Valley National Park remains connected to cultural values because for generations the Gond and Dhurwa tribes maintain a respectful relationship with their environment. Regional cultural identity includes the traditional dances and folk songs and bamboo handicrafts that are essential components which turn the park into a center of indigenous heritage.
